Description
Created for the Frans Hals Museum in 2019, The Grab Test is a monumental installation painted across lengths of Dutch wax cloth. Made in dialogue with seventeenth-century damasks from the museum’s collection, the work explores how textiles carry histories of migration, trade and colonialism. Through vivid colour and pattern, Himid draws attention to the often-overlooked makers and movements behind the fabrics that surround us.
